nobody prays for the heartless,
nobody gives another penny for the selfish
Flopping into the chair next to Danny had not been his intention, it was merely instinctual after doing so for the last five years at Hogwarts. Being the creature of habit that he was, it was impossible not to respond when the older boy offered a hesitant greeting. Ben murmured his own hello before slouching with his back to the orange haired Ravenclaw. He had not for one second forgiven Daniel Cassells for lying to him. He was still rather incensed over the whole ordeal, and on top of it, Emma had kissed him - which only made everything so much worse. Why couldn't things go his way just once? That time at the lake seemed forever ago, and now he just wanted to forget it all. Erase it from his mind; he might get some sleep then, at least.
Groaning when the Professor asked them to produce their assignments from the previous night, Ben wanted to slip under the table and die. Of course he'd have to misplace something like that. He knew he'd done it, but it was no where to be found. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Danny pushing a roll of parchment his way. Unfurling it revealed Ben's own hand writing, and the completed assignment. "I was only trying to get you to talk to me, honest." Danny whispered. Rolling his eyes, Ben snatched the paper up and scooted even further away from his ex-best friend. Could the guy not take a hint? They weren't friends anymore and they never would be. The guy said something else, that Ben didn't catch, but he didn't have to strain to hear to know what was said. It, of course, was another apology that was added to the stack of them Ben had ignored. This wasn't going to go away and the problem wasn't going to be fixed with a few words.
Turning his attention away from Danny, and to the lesson at hand, Ben took out his quill and started scratching notes onto a clean piece of parchment. He was pulled up short when Professor Pierce started to describe a group project that was going to be done. She'd already assigned partners, and she was going to call out names. Slouching even more so, Ben felt an awful jab of illness in the pit of his stomach. Everyone always paired him with Danny. He was the only one who'd ever kept the boy on task, so the teachers naturally paired them up. This was going to be a new form of hell, he decided, eyeing the ginger haired Ravenclaw beside him. Was it too late to transfer to Siberia? Or Madagascar? Somewhere far away from the lies and the backstabbing? ...From his stepfather?
Mentally shaking his head, he knew he couldn't leave mom and Bekah. They'd never survive without him, and he couldn't let his stepfather beat them because of his own selfishness. "Daniel Cassells, Benjamin Wakefield and Emmalee Davis, the three of you shall be a group. Turn in yesterday's assignment and you may go to the library and begin working on this project." Ben tuned her out after that, his mind still ringing and numb from the last name she'd said. Emma. What god had he pissed off in another life to deserve this? Slinging his messenger bag over his shoulder, he shoved past Danny at a fast clip, headed towards the library. He didn't wait for the other two.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][cs=2] | MY APOLOGIES FOR THE WAY I ENDED THINGS ----------------------------------------------------------
[style= overflow: auto; width: 220px; height: 275px; padding:5px; font-size: 13px; background-color: #0e0e0e; border: 5px solid #0e0e0e;]Sitting next to another ravenclaw girl, Emmalee removed her Transfiguration book along with parchment and a quill from her bag before placing the bag next to her seat on the floor. Propping her elbow up on the table as she held the quill in her other hand ready, her cheek laid in her propped up hand as she allowed her eyes to scan about the room. Where a smile usually appeared on her lips, there was nothing. Her face was blank, almost bored looking. Lately, she hadn't been able to get rid of the most burdening, yet amazing thoughts of fellow ravenclaw Benjamin Wakefield. It had been a while since she talked to the boy because of what she had done. She could remember very clearly the night she lied to the boy's face about the kiss between her and his best friend. Danny had been the one to initiate it, and she didn't kiss back, because she didn't want it. However, she told him that she was the one to kiss him, and he didn't want it. What a load of bologna. Emmalee didn't want anything to do with Danny in that manner. She wanted Ben.
Catching sight of auburn hair, her eyes immediately locked on the same boy that wouldn't get the hell out of her mind. Watching him, she noticed as he sat beside the very boy that caused the trouble, Danny. Were they friends again? Had Ben forgiven him? Initially, that was what Emma had intended to happen when she lied. Now, she was pretty much jealous with the fact that Danny gained Ben's trust back, when she did nothing wrong and ended up losing so much. As she kept her gaze in their direction, she took note of their facial reactions to one another. She was wrong. Ben had not forgiven him. Then, why was he sitting next to him? It was confusing to her why Ben had placed himself beside Danny, when he obviously couldn't stand being so near. Well, no need dwelling on it when she could do nothing about it. She needed to forget, but if she hadn't been able to this long, would she ever be able to?
No, of course not. Not at this rate, because as soon as the teacher announced a group project, she was placed in a group with none other than Ben and Danny. Sighing in annoyance, she gathered her things together and stood in time to see Ben shove past Danny and out of the classroom. Her gaze made it's way to meet Danny's eyes, before she shook her head and followed Ben out. The whole time it took to make it to the library, Emma thought about what she would say to Ben. What was there to say, other than what she had to for the project? She could apologize again, but she was sure he was sick of hearing that by now. She wouldn't be surprised if Danny took up a lot of Ben's time doing that. It made her wonder if Danny ever confessed to Ben about her lie. If he had, she wouldn't know whether to be thankful, or even more angry. She knew for a fact that Ben would not appreciate her lying to him. In her mind, him knowing could potentially make things worse for her, if they could get any worse.
Upon her arrival to the library, Emma saw the auburn haired raven sitting at a table. Pausing for a moment in the doorway to the library, she looked over him, questioning whether she should go up to him, or wait for Danny to make a move first. Whenever he decided to get there. After a few moments, she finally made a decision to go over. She had to at some point, so why not now? Crossing the floor, she silently sat across from Ben after setting her bag on the floor next to her. Her hands laid in her lap and her eyes focused on her lap as well. What was she supposed to do? Now that she had actually sat near him, she wasn't sure what to say or do. Slowly, she raised her eyes to meet his face, and soon after, her head followed. He was so angry and hurt. She could tell just by looking at him. He hadn't wavered a bit since that night. Letting her eyes return to her lap, her mouth opened without any thought and soon, the truth was out. "I lied to you."
NOTE: i loved it! thank you for starting it, and i've missed our threads too <3 anyway, i hope you don't mind me assuming he sat down.. i can change it if you want me to (:[/style] |

nobody prays for the heartless,
nobody gives another penny for the selfish
Ben flopped grumpily into one of the available chairs at the heavy oak table, and groused. It wasn't his fault that everything had fallen apart! If Danny had just told the truth and if Emma... If Emma had just kept her lips to herself, everything would have been just fine. No, he corrected himself, it wouldn't be. Nothing was going to be okay while he was so hurt and furious at the pair of them. Ben couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. Hell, he could barely keep himself together enough to get up in the morning half the time. He just wanted to roll back over in the covers and wish it all away. Too bad for him, since Professor Pierce seemed to be oblivious to the strain between the trio.
Ben knew the moment she stepped into the library. The air around her seemed to crack and snap, summoning his unwilling attention. She was beautiful, no matter how pissed he was at her. It nettled him even more so, since there was nothing he could do about the realization that even when so wounded, she still held him captive. There was so much he wanted to say, and to ask. Why had she done it? Why had Danny lied? What was it about him that inspired such negativity in other people? Ben stared at the surface of the table and ignored Emma as she sat near him. At least he pretended to ignore her. There was not a snowball's chance in hell that he actually could do so.
His valiant effort to safe himself from further heartache was promptly trashed when she spoke. Ben's head whipped up sharply, and his eyes narrowed on her face. With a fair amount of venom - which he usually saved for Danny - he sneered, "Join the club. It seems to be a fad these days." Internally he winced at the sound of his own words. What was it about her that made him act so strangely? With most people - herself, Danny, and Bekah excluded - Ben didn't care much for their opinions or actions. He was generally a relaxed fellow, that just went with the flow. But with Emma, it seemed he was forever backpedaling or shaking with endless nerves. You make me feel something. Was that a good thing? Or a bad thing? At the moment, Ben was pretty sure it was an end-of-his-world bad thing...
"Alright, I'll bite. What did you lie to me about? And let's not forget why, since you know how much I just love fibbers." Glancing up at the door, to see if Danny was on his way yet, he noticed the other boy was taking his sweet time. How convenient, he snipped to himself, eyes shooting back to Emma's face. She was so lovely, and for a moment he forgot how seething mad he was at her. His blue eyes traced over her features, drinking them in. They'd long since been committed to memory, and even if he'd lost his eyesight, Ben knew he would always remember what she looked like. Suddenly he realized, he was so tired. Being mad all the time was exhausting, and truthfully, he missed Danny something fierce. Perhaps there was an ounce of forgiveness in his soul? Thoughtfully turning it over, he pinned a dull stare on Emma and awaited her confession.

[style=background-image: url('http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd328/Zafrina_HL/imyours-1.png'); width: 400px; height: 372px;] Dammit. Ben was still upset with him and not willing to listen to a single word he needed to say. Danny had thought he could just move on after the first week or so... but he'd been so very wrong. He'd built up such a bond with Ben that it was impossible to find a replacement. Any other mere prankster would never fill his best friend's shoes, and he felt ashamed for even trying. He'd been running away rather than trying to face the problem at hand. Namely, himself. But now was his golden opportunity, as Professor Pierce buddied them up - along with Emmalee. It was like the universe was telling him to make up with the younger guy, and with her as well.
Danny allowed Ben to crash past him, his good natured disposition had taken far worse blows than that in the last few weeks. Ben could be downright poisonous when he felt like it, Danny had discovered. It was not a pleasant discovery, to say the least. Receiving the brunt of the venom only made it that much worse. It was as if Ben instinctively knew that everything was his fault and not Emmalee's. Even if the auburn haired raven didn't acknowledge it. Gathering his things, his eyes locked with Emma's and he felt a familiar wave of guilt mixed with longing. He'd been so close to having her once, and now he knew for sure he'd lost her to Ben. It was a bittersweet thing. His just desserts, one might even say.
His path to the library was slow and winding, as he hoped to give the other two a chance to maybe work some issues out. Danny found himself staring at Rebekah Wakefield, and he wasn't sure how long he'd been doing so. All he could suddenly think was, When did she get so pretty? Turning on the charm that was a second skin to him, he moseyed over to her. Giving her a handsome grin that had long been displaced from his face, Danny offered a wave of greeting. "Bekah, what are you up to? I haven't seen you in a while... You know... Since Ben." It was possible she wouldn't even look at him, considering all that he'd done to Ben. Had Ben told her anything? Had she figured it out on her own? For some reason, the idea of her thinking badly of him settled ill on his stomach. [/style] WORDS: 407 TAGS: emma! ben! bekah! MUSE: lovely~! NOTES: tada!
