She loved getting away from the school with her best friend Scarlett Caraway, spending the day with her in the various shops located in the town along with the pub The Three Broomsticks, where they can be found often drinking butterbeer and gossiping about the latest scandals and such. Their relationship has been slightly on the rocks lately due to Scarlett falling for a Hufflepuff guy who also happened to be muggleborn, which Katie despised deeply but she had been trying to repair their friendship…even if that meant putting up with that Keegan guy. Katie sighed and sat down on a bench in the courtyard to wait for Scarlett to finish up with a few things she had said she had to do before they could leave. Crossing her stocking covered legs she sat up against a small twisted tree that had somehow survived the whole attack on the school, and zipped up her bright red jacket.
Oh how I wish that Scarlett would hurry her butt up and get out here! She had better not be with that stupid badger kid or else I’m going to chew her out for making me wait here. Katie thought bitterly as she wrapped her arms around her torso to fend off the chill that was starting to surround her from sitting still so long. She was about to get up and go in search of Scarlett when movement caught her attention, but it wasn’t her Slytherin friend finally coming to meet her…it was that pretty face of Kyle Rowe, who had unfortunately been sorted into Hufflepuff as well. Now there’s a face worth staring at, just wish he had been put into Slytherin….too bad… She thought before saying aloud to the handsome male "Hey badger! You looking for a comfortable whole to hide in during the winter? Or just sneaking around when others aren’t looking?" She asked, thought she was surprised that not enough venom slipped into her voice as she was hoping for…she’d have to do better than that! Katie waited for his response, glaring hard at him though she really just couldn’t take her eyes off his handsome features.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][cs=2] | I WAS CREATED TO LOVE JUST ONE GIRL ---------------------------------------------------------- [style= overflow: auto; width: 220px; height: 275px; padding:5px; font-size: 13px; background-color: #0e0e0e; border: 5px solid #0e0e0e;] words: 469 outfit: click tags: katie Kyle wasn't quite ready to head out to Hogsmeade with the other students yet. He had several things to do first, including mail his letters to his family. His mother mandated a letter at least twice a month, and he often sent one to each of his older brothers. Both of them had long since graduated, and now lived abroad. Rarely did Kyle get to see them, unless it was a special holiday. Having been close to them as a young child, he continued to write them once they'd moved away. Taking the stairs two at a time, he kept one hand on the rail to keep his balance as the stairwell swung to a new location. Keeping his eyes downward, so as not to misstep, he clutched the letters to his side. Making his way towards the owlery, he passed outside into the courtyard. It was pretty empty, seeing as most of the students had already headed off towards Hogsmeade, and only a handful of stragglers remained. The air was cool, but not cold enough to require a jacket. The sun shone weakly on his bare, tan shoulders and Kyle glanced around the apparently abandoned area. Only a few people were inhabiting the area. Two looked to be younger students, who would not be venturing into the village, but wishing they were. The other was a Slytherin he was familiar with. Katie Frasier was a snake in every sense of the word, if he were to judge, but really he just liked to ignore her. Sure she was pretty on the outside, but the words that often spewed from her mouth, belied an uglier inside. Which was a shame, he decided as he looked at her. She was a head turner, but with that attitude, Kyle would have preferred to stay away from her. Just as one could have predicted, the girl decided to open her mouth and heckle. It seemed to be a common trait of the Slytherin house, but he didn't mention it. Instead, he offered her a cheesy grin and motioned to their surroundings. "It's only fall now, but I'm sure I'll be just fine come winter, thanks." His words didn't hold any hostility. If anything, they were relaxed and kind-hearted, as Kyle was too down to earth to get worked up over some small insult. Showing her the letters he carried, he paused in the middle of the path, "I'm actually headed to the owlery, but I can't say I'm really slinking... It's more of a leisurely stroll, I'd think." Offering her a conspiratorial wink, he turned and kept walking in the direction of the owlery. It never did to get upset over something like an insult; no one had the power to make him feel badly about himself unless he let them. [/style] |

She didn’t know whether to get angry because he wasn’t getting angry at her comment or let the force of his smile make her smile. Damn I’m getting so soft hearted if a Hufflepuff badger can make me want to smile…. But he’s just so damn hot it shouldn’t be legal. Katie reigned in her thoughts before they could get out of control and make her say something she might regret saying later. But right after this she blurted out rather unceremoniously "How the hell did someone as hot as you get put into Hufflepuff?"It came out rather as a heated demand. Almost immediately she felt her cheeks warm as color flooded them. Fuck! Where did that come from?! I just sounded like one of those lame groupies that used to follow Harry Potter around. GROSS. I need to back track now….
”What I mean is…” she managed to add in quickly, her mental wrangling hadn’t taken more than a second or two, she hadn’t even waited to see his reaction to what she had said. ”What did you tell the hat to fool him into putting you in Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin, we all know the best blood gets in there, surely the hat was pushing for Slytherin. She tried to put enough venom into her voice as she spoke of his house to make up for her earlier slip up about his looks. God she hadn’t seen that coming! Normally she wasn’t this bad about keeping her thoughts to herself but this guy! What was it with this stupid Hufflepuff hottie that made her brain go haywire?!
Slowly she felt the heat recede from her cheeks, her blush going away as she fought to regain her composure around Kyle. Kyle, even his name is sexy! Damn I curse you Kyle Rowe for making me so inwardly confused. She crossed her arms over her chest and tried to look at the male without blurting out anything else that happened to cross her mind. Hell, he was probably laughing inwardly at her now thinking she was soft. God she just wanted to walk away, but Katie never walked away from something she had started…even if it began to go badly for her.

What she said next caught him a bit off guard, but he took it in stride. After all, it wasn't every day that a Slytherin was admitting to finding a Hufflepuff attractive. And with Katie, a half insult, half complement was probably as close as he was ever going to get to hearing something nice. Not that I was hoping for anything else. Giving a bit of a shrug, he spoke in a teasing voice. "Isn't it a requirement for Slytherins to be prickly and pretty? From what I've seen so far, you fit the bill, ma'am."Shuffling the dirt at his feet with the toe of his shoe, he looked up at her, as if in deep thought. "You know, if you spent half as much time smiling as you did spitting venom, you'd be a pretty girl, Katie." He didn't mean it in a harsh manner, and his voice was speculative, rather than accusing. Kyle only felt the need to point out the fact, since he was sure she knew that being so vicious wasn't really attractive. Or at least, he hoped she knew that. No one liked to be made to feel worthless or lesser, simply because of their looks or blood status. As a half-blood, he'd gotten some flack for his blood, but not nearly as much as some of the muggleborns received. Kyle liked to help people feel better about themselves, not tear them down. Quietly, he wondered why she was as cruel as she was. Had something happened to her or had she been shaped by her parents, as most purebloods were, to hate those with different outlooks on life? Kyle mentally shuddered at the thought. People like that were sheep, following blindly and never stopping to question what they were doing. People like that allowed wizards like Voldemort and his supporters to roam in the first place - and it made Kyle uncomfortable. He knew enough about Katie to know she wasn't an idiot, so he couldn't figure her out. What pleasure did she derive from making others miserable, unless it was to ease some secret pressure of her own? "Anyways, I've got to go mail these. Try not to forget to smile sometimes; it's not good for you to hide away how beautiful you are, you know."If he didn't know himself better, he would have sworn he'd been flirting with the girl. But then, that wasn't possible, because Kyle didn't like bullies. Certainly not mean girls like Katie Frasier. Right? A bit uneasy, he made his way towards the base of the owlery tower. The letters, he held in now shaking hands, because he was a touch disquieted by the realization that the Slytherin girl was attractive, despite her seemingly always sour disposition. On the bright side, he thought humorously to himself, at least she's not a cave troll. Pushing his classmate from his mind, Kyle skipped up the stairwell, taking the steps two at a time. [/style] |

Even if her words had been the truth she still felt foolish for letting them fly out of her mouth unchecked. She narrowed her eyes a little at what he said first, making her sound like a flowering cactus or something. That almost had her opening her big mouth to protest but his little hesitation had her stopping and waiting for what he had to say next. And boy was she floored with his next words. Is it just me or did he just say something nice to me in a roundabout way as well? She found herself thinking, and for once was rendered rather speechless. She couldn’t remember when if ever that she couldn’t think of a single thing to say back to a person, but Kyle Rowe had just gone and made her brain completely blank of any kind of response. He left her with another nice comment, heading off towards the owelry.
Katie stood there stunned by his nice comments, watching as he walked away from her and after a long moment cursed herself for being such a bitch to him; something that never happened before. Sighing and mentally kicking herself she knew that it was now or never to go after the male and apologize for her behavior, though she wasn’t entirely sure why she wanted to apologize. She surely wouldn’t have apologized if it were someone other than Kyle she had just spoken to…but that was it, whoever this guy was to her he definitely messed with her head enough that she felt like she needed to spend more time with him. ”Come on Katie, you’ve got more balls than most guys do and you can’t go after a guy and apologize?” She chastised herself aloud before sighing again and starting after Kyle.
”Kyle, wait!” She said as she caught up to him just as he was ascending the steps to the owelry and lightly grabbed his arm, noting silently his nicely toned bicep before saying as he turned to her. ”Kyle, look….I’m…I’m sorry for being such a bitch to you back there.” She said looking up at him then away quickly before she added ”You didn’t deserve to be used as a verbal punching bag just because you’re in a different house than I am, and…I’m sorry.” Oh it was a punch to her ego to apologize, but at that moment she wasn’t entirely regretting her decision. She definitely didn’t want him to hate her, not with the way he made her feel…yeah he definitely melted her cold heart. Katie blushed as she realized she still had hold of his arm and let go quickly, so as not to make him feel uncomfortable. She bit her lip nervously and pulled at the hem of her dress as she stood there eating her words. ”And I wanted to say that I’m sorry for insinuating that everyone that is intelligent and of good looks is slytherin material…” she gave him the smallest of smiles, admittedly a slightly nervous one as she added ”as you are obviously both of those and not a slytherin…and I think I’m actually glad of that last one.” Katie admitted sheepishly. Shyness was not the most usual thing in Katie’s vocabulary, but she suddenly felt very shy and wanted to run away for admitting so much to him at one time.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][cs=2] | I WAS CREATED TO LOVE JUST ONE GIRL ---------------------------------------------------------- [style= overflow: auto; width: 220px; height: 275px; padding:5px; font-size: 13px; background-color: #0e0e0e; border: 5px solid #0e0e0e;] words: 552 outfit: click tags: katie He nearly missed a step when she called out his name and touched his arm. Nearly jumping out of his skin, Kyle grabbed the banister to keep himself from kissing concrete. Katie was full of surprises today it seemed. It went from her being venomous and cruel, to seemingly girlish and a bit sheepish. Odd, he thought, since she was one of the more wicked Slytherin girls he knew of. How strange of her to utter any form of an apology. Watching her through eyes that always glittered with humor, he tried to decide what the catch might be. There always had to be some kind of punchline with Katie, no matter how innocent she appeared to be. Hesitating before turning fully to her, he half expected some jinx to the face. Instead his gaze fell not on a bully, but a girl. She stumbled over an apology - a rare event, he was sure - and attempted a smile. Was it for him? An unusual flutter in his chest startled him, and he hoped it hadn't shown. Regaining himself, he broke an easy grin in return - something he was forever and always doing. "See? I was right. Much prettier when you smile, rather than sneer. I like you better already; and besides, you don't have to apologize to me. I don't let other people's opinion's of me, get me down. It's called self esteem for a reason, right?" Pressing his back against the railing, he kept his attention on her. She was a million times more attractive to him when she let her lips turn upwards in a friendly gesture. He could see himself going quite far to have her give him a full smile. Mentally shaking himself, he stepped back from the situation. Just what on earth was going on here? Was she actually being nice to him? No jinxes? No taunts or snide remarks? And also, was that a flutter of anticipation in his stomach? Kyle was quite sure that only happened when he was around girls he liked. That didn't sound like anything that could turn out well, and so he tried to stuff the budding feelings else where. He didn't have time to deal with some weird attachment to a snake who liked to torment underdogs. She stood for everything Kyle hated, and yet there was a part of him that was already dying to know her better. What harm could there be in spending a little more time in her presence? Offering her his arm, like a classical gentleman, Kyle spoke, "I've still got to drop these off, but... Perhaps you'd join me in Hogsmeade afterwards? It can't hurt, since I'm sure that's where you were headed in the first place, right?" He wasn't what one would call timid, but his voice wasn't it's usual boisterous self. The sound was quieter, but no less confident. What was the worst she could do? He already expected her to recoil and hiss some rude or spiteful remark, and that never ruffled his feathers. He'd liked to have thought himself unflappable, except this turn of events already had him grasping at straws. There didn't seem to be any answer for her out of character behavior, but he liked it. Why not ride it out and explore the possibilities? [/style] |
