There were hardly any students in there, but for Emma, being inside for too long made her her restless. The library was one of her favorite places, filled with various books to read and be used to learn something new, but being outdoors was where she felt the most peace. There might be a lot more students outside and of course, where there are students, there is noise, but she loved it. She could handle the noise if it meant she could be outside doing her own thing. The open space and the wind when it decided to blow gently. Even just sitting beneath a tree, made reading a lot more enjoyable. Not that she didn't find it fun in the first place. It was one of her most loved pastimes. Reading gave her the chance to use her imagination and daydream about lands that didn't exist and things that probably wouldn't happen in real life. However, it wouldn't be surprising if something in those books could really happen, especially the most fictional stories, because never in a million years would she have believed in witchcraft and wizardry if it wasn't for her Hogwarts acceptance letter that arrived on her eleventh birthday.
Standing from the table she was seated at, Emmalee collected the four books she had with her. One, she had been actually reading, while the other three were a mix of books to read and books for classes. With all books in one arm, she pushed in her chair with her free hand and then turned for the door. On her way out, she used her free hand to once again pick up the book she was reading and opened it to continue on while the other three remained in her arm. The book was really good and she couldn't wait until she got outside to continue it, so she decided to walk and read at the same time. The book was set back in the medieval period and at the point she was at, there were two young people that were just forced to meet by their parents, who hoped they would be together because of status. The man was a depressed young man, while the young woman was a lively girl who seemed to be very optimistic and accepting of him, even if she hated the very idea of meeting him against her will. Emmalee knew already that the two would fall in love. It was predictable, but she loved to read about the journey to the romance. She was quite the hopeless romantic at times, especially when it came to stories. If she could have a story like that, she would be completely happy, despite the drama that went along with it. Still, books like the one she was currently reading, tended to be her favorite kind and some of the most heartfelt.
However, reading while walking through the halls probably wasn't the smartest idea. She was completely wrapped up in her book, leaving her oblivious to her surroundings. Rounding the corner, she hadn't seen the student walking around the same corner when she ran into him pretty hard, dropping all of her books with the contact. Trying to grab for her falling books, she tripped forward and into him. Her face collided with his, pressing their lips together. Her eyes widening in shock, she immediately pulled back, a red color flushing quickly across her cheeks. Her heart was racing as her eyes stayed locked on the boy. He was probably just as mortified as her. Wait. She knew this boy. In fact, she had known him for a long time, but never actually gotten to meet him officially. She was even really close to his best friend, but oddly he never introduced the two. The fact that this was their first meeting, made everything so much worse. How much more embarrassing could a person get? "I'm so sor-" She started to say before she tripped over a fallen book while she was moving away, falling backward. Well, that answered that question. What a great way to get to know someone. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] Benjamin wasn't sure what Danny was yakking about this time, but that didn't stop the auburn haired boy from laughing at his friend's antics. The pair made their way down the hall, Ben keeping an eye out for James and Keegan. The four of them were a tight knit group, having been together since their first years at Hogwarts. Ben adjusted the strap of the guitar case slung over his shoulder, a grin spread across his face. "You are a complete dimwit, Danny. I haven't the slightest clue what you're even talking about!"
The comment garnered him a light shove from his best friend, inciting a tiny pushing contest that lasted for only seconds. Both he and Danny had been though so much in their youth, and now they were going to be starting their sixth year at Hogwarts together. Ben had a sense of dread ever lingering in the back of his mind; time was running out and soon, he'd no longer have a safe haven to return to. He would be stuck at home with his abusive father, if he didn't pass everything with flying colors he might very well be trapped in a world of hurt. Shaking off those thoughts, Ben's attention turned back to Danny.
The guy was a non-stop talker. Any and every subject was bound to be brought up at some point or another and occasionally Ben wanted silence. However, today he was feeling rather social, and so when they caught up with Keegan and James, Ben was pleased. Giving each of them a welcome and a slap on the back, the four made their way towards the small side courtyard they tended to hang out in. As they rounded the corner, James, being ever the rough-housing older brother sort, lunged to knock Ben's shoulder. Seeing his friend's intention, Ben jumped away from him only to turn his face and see another person.
It didn't click in his mind at first that their mouths were pressed together, until she jumped back. When his eyes refocused Ben wanted die. He could feel the flames burning his cheeks bright red. What was worse? He knew this girl and she had never given him the time of day. For all intents and purposes, Ben was completely infatuated with Emmalee Davis. Watching in utter shock as she slipped backwards, her heel having caught on one of her numerous books, Ben's mind was frozen. Had he just kissed her? If the hoots of laughter from the three guys behind him, he figured it was safe to say so.
Shooting a dirty look in their general direction, he knelt down and picked up her books, not looking at her. Sure, Ben was confident when he was surrounded by his friends and the spotlight was on one of them. But when they all stood back and he was singled out? It made him wish for a stairwell to move and for him to fall straight to the bottom. Since he had no cloak of invisibility, disappearing was out of the question. The next option was to do as his mother taught him, and be polite to her. Offering his hand to help her up, Ben tried to keep from gawking at her. Emma was beautiful, despite the difference in their styles. For once, he wished he owned something nicer than the pair of jeans and band tee he was wearing.

Emma had always been the one to stumble around and make a fool out of herself. Usually, it didn't bother her either. It was simple to just laugh it off and laugh along with those that decided to make fun of her. Why get upset about something so small? However, she had never accidentally kissed someone before. She didn't have a problem with kissing or the boy that she ended up doing just that to. In fact he was very attractive in her opinion, even if they were polar opposites. He wore the jeans and the band tees, while she wore the more dressed up attire. Dresses and the like. Everyone had their own style though, so it wasn't a big issue to her. The fact in the matter was, she had kissed him, without even really knowing him. And it was forced upon him. That pretty much made her feel horrid. She was a flirt and not afraid to admit it, but she would never go that far because what she did was all harmless. Just fun.
Her bottom hit the ground harder than she expected it to as she heard the laughter of his friends. Looking from one to the other, her eyes rested on Danny for a moment, not believing that he too was getting quite a kick out of her embarrassing moment. Oh well. She would remember that the next time he needed her for something. Or, if he were to do something to embarrass himself, she would make sure to laugh. Who was she kidding? She wouldn't do that. For one, Danny hardly got embarrassed because he was nonstop making jokes on himself and two, she couldn't not help him. He was one of her best friends and had been for the past few years. Attention returning to Ben, she watched guiltily as he picked up her books. "Oh, you don't have to-" But he had finished before she could do anything about it. Letting out a small sigh, she replaced her frown with a smile when he offered her his hand. "Thank you." She told him as she took it and hoisted herself up.
"I really am sorry for that. I can be quite the clumsy one sometimes." A light chuckle escaped her lips as she tucked a bit of hair behind her ear and brushed off her dress. "You're Benjamin, right? But you go by Ben?" Her blue eyes stayed locked on the boy, giving him all of her attention and forgetting the others for the moment. He was her priority, seeing as she had just knocked into him, let alone kissed him. Without noticing, her eyes then trailed to his lips. Laughing lightly once again, she stepped toward him. Lifting her hand, she rested it under his chin while her thumb gently ran across his lips. "You had.. a bit of lip gloss.." She explained, seeing as he would probably be wondering why she was touching him, and in that manner. His lips were nice, but she wasn't going to just randomly feel them.
Retracting her hand, she finally turned to the other boys giving them, mostly Danny, her attention. "By the way, I'm glad you all find the moment so hilarious. Especially you Daniel Robert Cassells. I know you're so used to my mishaps by now, but seriously? You couldn't do anything but stand there and laugh your lungs out? I would at least hope you would help me up. You really should take lessons from your friend here." A frown took place on her lips now as she crossed her arms. She had decided that she wasn't going to let him get away with laughing at her. She wasn't mad at all, but that didn't mean she couldn't mess with him. Being so close to her, he should pick up on the fact that she wouldn't really be upset, but she never knew when it came to him. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] Ben's face flushed deeper red as she thanked him and took his hand. Why did those three have to be witnessing the ultimate humiliation for him? Ben was painfully aware of the fact that James, Keegan and Danny all knew of his crush on Emmalee. They'd spent plenty of time teasing him about it before, now they simply had more fuel for the fire. He knew they didn't mean any harm by it, but that didn't lessen the embarrassment he was sure to face. Slipping his hand away from her once she was on her feet, Ben fiddled with the seam of his shirt.
Emma apologized and he managed to mumble out to her, "It's no big deal, no need to say sorry for it." When she asked his name and how he preferred to be called, it was all he could do to manage a nod. This girl was amazingly talented from what he had seen and heard, and on top of that she was beautiful - and she'd just accidentally kissed him! Trying not to melt into the floor, Ben was utterly dumbfounded when her thumb brushed over his mouth. His brain was immediately tossed into a completely inappropriate direction, and he knew that if the guys ever found out he'd never hear the end of it.
She was talking to him, but his brain wasn't quite ready to leave its reverie and he missed her words. Staring dumbly at her, he asked, "What?" Which was followed by a another round of roaring laughter at his expense, provided by his trio of friends. His full attention brought back to the present, he caught her second set of words. What on earth? Danny knew Emma? And had never once said a thing about it? Not only did that strike Ben as strange, it pissed him off completely. His perky mood completely ruined, he clammed up.
Oh, shit, was all Danny could manage to think. Emma had just called him out, by his first name no less. Not once had he ever mentioned to Ben that he'd become best friends with her, let alone that they had briefly dated. Although he still had feelings for her, Danny knew that Emma only saw him as a friend. It cut him a bit, but he loved her regardless of that, and wanted her to be happy. If the only way he could be in her life was to be her best friend, he would gladly take the deal.
Looking to Ben to see how the slip of information was faring, Danny nearly winced. Uh oh. He knew that look so well, it was an automatic twinge of guilt for the older boy. Ben was his best friend - had been for years - and here he had been sneaking around behind his back and keeping secrets. The withdrawn, 'leave-me-the-fuck-alone' look on Ben's face was a bit frightening. What was worse? He was storming towards Danny, not saying a word, Emma's books gripped with white knuckles.
Ben couldn't believe he'd trusted that lying twat. All the years they'd spent together... What else had he been fabricating? Turning on his heel and stalking back in the direction he'd just come, Ben let his shoulder jab sharply into Danny's collar bone. He was having trouble deciding on if he wanted to break the guy's nose or just hex him into oblivion. Choosing the high road, he left it with the shove and walked off, fuming internally.

Emma could see it written all over his face and the red color that had taken a hold of his cheeks was not helping his case. Nonetheless, she wouldn't call him out on it. Why would she do that? It would only make it worse on him. What was strange was how he was the one to be so scatterbrained over the whole situation. She was the one who had tripped twice in front of him and his friends, and one of them had planted a kiss on his lips! Not that it was unpleasant or anything. If it hadn't have happened the way it did, maybe it would be enjoyable. He did look like he could be a good kisser. But anyway, she should be the one having trouble speaking, not him. Maybe he was more shy than the others? Danny wasn't at all and had never been, and from what she had heard, Ben shouldn't be either. It was confusing to her, but she decided to let it slide for the time being.
Feeling the new presence of tension, Emmalee glanced between the two boys. Something definitely wasn't right. Ben looked completely ticked off and Danny looked somewhat, afraid. What was going on? Had she said something, or done something wrong? All she had done was called Danny out on his teasing. That wouldn't have pissed Ben off, would it have? No. It wasn't her, and she found that out real quick when Ben turned quickly and shoved past his best friend. For a moment, she just stood there, watching after him. Everything was happening so fast, she had no clue what in the world was going on, or how to even respond. Blinking, she turned to Danny again, her frown staying in place, because this time it wasn't fake. "What did you do this time?" She asked, her question being more rhetorical than anything, seeing as she didn't wait for a response. At the moment, she couldn't care less what he had to say. He wasn't the one upset by everything and apparently, it was because of him that anyone was upset at all.
Turning from the group, she followed after Ben, her instincts telling her that she needed to make sure he was alright. Not only that, but on her way, she realized he still held her books hostage and she was just dying to continue with the story she was reading. Of course, she wouldn't read while she was around him, but if she didn't get it back now, she didn't know when she would. "Ben, wait!" She called after him, starting to catch up. "Please. I'm sorry for whatever you're upset about." Finally catching up enough to be behind him, she reached out and lightly grabbed onto his elbow, hoping he would stop. When he came to a halt, she slowly let go before circling in front of him. Smiling softly at him, she let herself make eye contact with his angry eyes. In the back of her mind, she wished it was not a mistake going after him, but she didn't think he would take it out on her. At least, not if it wasn't her fault. After all, she had already come to the conclusion it was Danny's, after watching the scene that had only moments ago unfolded. "Hey, what's wrong?" She still had her books resting in her memory so she wouldn't forget to get them from him, but for now, she wasn't too worried about them. She just wanted to figure out exactly what was causing him such anger. It had sprung up so quickly. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] How could he? Ben was so upset by the fact that the person he trusted most in the world had betrayed that confidence. Danny knew everything about Ben; his family problems, the fact that he had a crush on Emma, and loads of embarrassing facts. Was their friendship really worth risking for a girl, who according to Danny, had never spared either of them a second glance? That was obviously a lie now as well. The more he thought of it, the more his fury grew.
The angry, auburn haired boy had forgotten completely about the books he kept clutched to his ribcage. The strap of the guitar case was beginning to dig a little into his shoulder, but he ignored it. Too pissed to really notice what was going on around him, Ben didn't hear Emma coming after him. He only knew he wanted to be a thousand miles away from all of it. Keegan and James would certainly want to poke and pry, and Keegan might even bring up - god forbid - feelings. He had absolutely no inclination to speak of any such thing to the lot of them. As far as he was concerned about Danny at this point, he was through.
Daniel Cassells had never felt so low in his entire life, and with the looks his two remaining friends were shooting him, he was beginning to dread the day. Keegan was the first to speak, his eyebrows raised high and his tone a bit too knowing. "You didn't tell him about it did you?" Danny wasn't sure how to reply, as the three of them knew full well what Danny had and had not said to Ben about Emmalee Davis. James, ever the relaxed guy, shrugged a bit, "A girl's a girl, man, but you gotta give a little warning before you go after your best friend's girl."
Danny, being a bit selfish, had not even considered asking Ben about Emma - when the opportunity had arisen, he'd taken it... But now he was desperate to take it back. Benjamin Wakefield was honestly the best friend he could ever ask for. The guy was creative, sharp witted, comical, and above all else: he told the straight and honest truth. To have spat on their friendship weighed heavy on his heart, but he wasn't sure Ben would be willing to forgive him just yet. Their last year at Hogwarts was turning out to be quite the bad one thus far.
She had caught him, grabbed onto his elbow and stopped him. To be truthful, his heart had leapt crazily at the contact. Trying to push aside the betrayal and the rage, Ben refused the urge to whip out the reed wand jammed in his pocket and obliterate Daniel Cassells. Hadn't he been through enough in his life? A father that beat him and a mother who lost herself in a bottle of scotch each night. Watching the pretty blonde though slitted eyes, he kept himself in check. It wasn't her fault Danny was a two-faced, self-serving asshat.
"You didn't really have to ask me if I'm okay, Emma... It wasn't anything you did, alright? There's no need to be sorry or to worry about it." Any other time, and Ben would have been fainting in joy that she'd spoken to him - had chased after him! But his feelings towards the older boy had kept him from enjoying the moment. Remembering the novels he had picked up, he offered them back to her. "Oh, right, sorry. Here, these are yours." What was he supposed to say? Hi, I've been in love with you from the moment I saw you? Yeah, as if that would go over well, Ben.
Mentally rolling his eyes at himself, he turned his focus back to Emma. "Where were you headed? I could walk you there if you like?" Not sure where the boost of courage had come from, he let it roll over him, using it like emotional armor. Winking at her, he whispered conspiratorially, "I'd rather hang out with a pretty girl than go to a single lesson, you know." How was it she was so easy to get along with? Where there had been fear before, with a single smile she could wipe his mind clean, make him think of nothing else. She was going to drive him nuts.

That was exactly how the situation was playing out now, once she was away from Danny and the other two, whoever they were. She could obviously recognize that they were close to both Danny and Ben, but she had never actually met them before. Just like she had never officially met Ben before. Emma wasn't entirely sure as to why Danny kept him from her, seeing as he was supposed to be his best friend. Did he even know that her and Danny had dated? Actually, did he even know that they were friends? Ben had seemed to start reacting in an angry fashion after she had called Danny out. Of course, that didn't mean that he didn't know anything. He could have been mad for multiple reasons. None of which she knew. But, if it were for the fact that the shared friend hadn't mentioned anything about their relationship to him, why would he be so mad? Whatever. It doesn't matter. I need to focus on him right now. That was the reason for out of sight, out of mind. Now that Danny and his duo of laughing hyenas were not in her line of sight, they had no reason to be in her mind either. She was there for Ben's welfare and his alone. And, her books of course.
Hearing his words, she shook her head from side to side a couple times to show her disagreement. "Of course I had to make sure you were alright. One does not simply go from seemingly flustered to utterly pissed off in a matter of seconds. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen someone get angry that fast. Congratulations. You have shown me something new." She teased, hoping she could lighten his mood. It wouldn't be too fun if he stayed so sullen the whole time they spoke. Something was bothering him, so she would understand if nothing helped, but that didn't mean she couldn't try. It was her job to try to make people happy, according to her. She would do just about anything to see him smile again. Not being able to speak due to whatever it was he was feeling, was better than speaking angry words. Not that he was meaning to. He wasn't being harsh in her opinion. She just knew he was still upset, so the atmosphere was not too bright.
Taking the books from him when they were held out to her, she wrapped her arms around them and held them to her chest. "Thank you sir and there is no reason to be sorry. You didn't mean to steal my books, so all is forgiven." Emma couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. He probably thought she was nuts by now. If not, then he would surely come to realize it sooner or later. She wasn't though. She just happened to be lighthearted, and would rather bring light to a dark situation than stay within the darkness. She had been there and done that. About a year and a half of complete depression made her never want to return to that place again. It was honestly one of the worst feelings anyone could ever deal with. She couldn't sleep. She couldn't eat much. She wouldn't even try to get along with people. She had been kept to herself. After pulling herself from that, she pushed every day to be as happy as she could be. Was that so wrong?
"I was just making my way outside, but I had no specific location. I thought it would be a lot more enjoyable to read outdoors than in the library." She answered him, her smile a bit brighter now that he seemed to be getting on a better page. "However, now that you're around, I won't be doing much reading. So, anywhere in particular you would like to go?" His wink caught her off guard, but she took it in, enjoying his attempt at flirting. "Oh, is that so? You think I'm pretty? I would have never believed that had I not just heard it from your very lips." She teased, turning from him and starting to walk off, knowing he would probably follow. "And I must say, I have such handsome company, so I am content as well." Turning her head just a bit to see him as she continued on, she returned the favor of a wink. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] He noted her disagreement and listened to her as she spoke. Ben was rather fond of her voice. Forgetting his anger a moment, he laughed at her words. Life was far too short and dark anyways, to keep such feelings at the forefront. Letting go had always been easier for Ben than it had been for others. With the way he'd lived so far, he had no need for extra baggage in his life. There was only so much room in one person's heart for emotional turmoil.
"Yeah... Sorry you had to see that. Danny and I aren't usually such twats about stuff." Grinning at her, he played along, "You know, there's plenty of new things I could show you, darling, if you'd just let me." Shoving Danny completely from his mind, he played with the rings on his lip. It was the start of term anyways, so work was light - not to mention he didn't have a lesson to attend at the moment. Besides, he reasoned with himself, it's Emma. I can't say no to her...
Before he could actually respond to her, Emma was walking off. Of course he thought she was pretty, he nearly scoffed. That was, until he realized what a nice view he had of her retreating rear end. Shrugging the guitar case up higher on his shoulder, he hurried to catch up to her. As he drew even with her, he pressed his lips to her ear with a grin, and teased. "Ma'am, with a view like that, you can keep me company any time your heart desires."
Speeding up so that he was leading the way, Ben turned around to show her his most winsome smile. Heading out of the castle and across the outer grounds, he assumed she would continue to follow him. If not, well, he supposed there wasn't much he could do about that. Reaching the tree he had been aiming for, Ben slung the strap of the guitar case off his shoulder and set it down. Stretching out, he yawned and settled himself on a knot protruding from the base of the tree.
Emmalee had, to his unending satisfaction, followed him down from the castle. Fiddling with the strap of the case resting against his leg, he looked up at her. "So you and Danny, eh? Were you just friends or was there something more to that?" Looking off, out over the lake, Ben tried not to piss himself off. "He never once told me, you know. Eight years of knowing him, and he had to go and do something like that? What was the point of it?"
Picking up a stone near his foot, he hurtled it out into the lake. It skipped several times and then sank; just like his heart had earlier. There was always something that was holding Ben back, but now he didn't feel like playing around. Agitated, he ripped at the grass with his emptied hand. "If you knew half the shit... But you don't. Really, I guess I'm mostly bothered by the fact that the guy lied to my face, so many times." How was he supposed to place his trust in Danny now? Lies fucked everything up and now Ben had no clue what to do.

"We all have our moments. It's not a big deal. However, the tension was so overwhelming. I thought I would just die." Of course she was only messing with him again. Adding a bit of over dramatization was fun at times in her opinion. Plus, she was sure he wouldn't mind. Maybe he would even get a kick out of it. The flirtatious comment made her smirk a bit, thinking about what he could possibly be hinting at. Being that he was a man and probably had raging hormones at this point in his life, she was sure she knew exactly what he meant. Still, she would seize the chance to continue on with the flirting. "Oh? Like what? I'm dying to find out exactly what you could teach me. Maybe soon you could show me?" She mused, knowing fully well that nothing would truly be happening between them any time soon.
Emmalee found herself having to stop when his lips pressed against her ear and he spoke to her. A giggle escaped from her lips as she moved away from him, pushing him lightly before he walked ahead of her. "You do know your eyes should stay above the waist, don't you?" She teased back, following him to wherever he was leading her. "But you know, I don't think I've learned my lesson either, seeing as I just realized how nice of an ass you have on you." Chuckling to herself, she shook her head as she continued to follow him. He had proved to be most interesting in the few moments they had spent together. She couldn't understand why Danny had never introduced them. Benjamin Wakefield was a hoot and even though she had technically just met him, she was enjoying his company and she could see herself falling for him. He was a lot like Danny, but in ways, he was different. Which was what set him apart. When she had broken up with Danny, she told him she thought they were better as friends. She wasn't so sure that would be the case with Ben. For some reason, she had a feeling she would end up liking him. But, for now, she would just take things slow, and go with the flow.
Reaching a tree by the lake, Emmalee did as he and sat down. Her back rested against the tree and she stretched out her legs in front of her before setting her books beside her. Upon hearing his question, she tilted her head back against the tree and looked at the sky. "Yeah. Danny and I. We're just really good friends, but we did happen to date for a bit in fourth year." She could remember everything about that relationship. To be honest, it wasn't bad at all. Danny was really sweet to her and did what any good boyfriend should do. She just happened to realize she couldn't feel as strongly about him as he did her. She wasn't going to string him along when he deserved someone who would love him unconditionally. They were young anyway. They had plenty of time to find someone else. Mixed emotions instantly hit her when he told her that Danny had never told him. She felt guilty because he never knew and it obviously upset him. Then, she felt angry, because she felt like Danny should have told him. Not just because Ben was supposed to be his best friend, but it made her think, was he embarrassed to be with her? "I'm sorry. If I would have known..."
Her gaze then returned to him as she watched him skip a rock across the lake. Something was eating at him, and she was curious to find out what it was. Danny had lied to him, that much she knew because he had just told her, but was there more? "If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did he lie to you about?" She knew it was probably none of her business, even though it was about her. It was between the two boys, but seeing as they were on the subject, she didn't find it too horrible to ask. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I understand if it's personal." WORDS: 718 MUSE: good COMMENTS: woot! yes, yes it does. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] Her teasing response to his suggestive words shut him up a bit. Ben was still a complete and total virgin, having done nothing more than kiss with a girl. But Emma's asking made him wonder about it for a minute - what it would be like with her. Shaking out of that less than gentlemanly reverie, he tried to laugh off what she said. "I'm not sure you're quite ready for this." He indicated to himself and then stuck out his tongue like a child.
She laughed at his words and he was nearly leaping in excitement. After spending so much time wondering what she was like, he was finding that he loved her personality so far. Winking at her, as he looked back from his place ahead of her, he teased further. "It's impossible to do such. I blame gravity for making my eyes look so low... But now that I have, I don't regret a thing!" He nearly tripped when Emma commented on his own derriere, and smoothly he twisted back ground to keep talking. "I'd be more than willing to tutor you if you like, love." It had been a while since he'd really flirted with a girl. What with how much he liked Emma, it was hard to find one who compared at all.
She was so easy to get along with. Was this why Danny hadn't wanted to share her with him? Ben thought he'd been attracted to her before, but it had been mostly a physical thing. Now that he was spending time with her, alone, he was beginning to see she had more than just sex appeal. The fact that he could say some of the thing he had to her, made him happy. Too many girls at the school were uptight and wanted a completely proper gentleman with manners. Ben wanted nothing to do with etiquette or fancy clothes. All he had needed this far in his life were his music, his sister... and Danny. Sobering up a little, as he leaned against the tree, Ben thought about the years they'd been together for.
His blood boiled with jealousy when he heard that Emma and Danny had dated. The idea of Danny's hands and mouth on her, set him on edge. She wasn't his, but she shouldn't have ever been Danny's either. His voice had a hard edge to it as he spoke. The carefully contained fury, as well as his envy, were apparent. "The asshole never told me as much. Probably because he was too afraid I'd beat the hell out of him - Which I still have half a mind to do!" The more they lingered on this, the angrier he grew, and he wanted to be done with the topic. More rather, he wanted her to take back the time she'd been with Danny. That was never supposed to have happened, and according to Danny, it never did.
"You want to know why I'm so mad? He knew. He knew I liked you. He knew from the beginning that I wanted you and he went and did this anyways." Ben knew at some point he'd just get over it, but for now he wanted to be hurt and indignant. After all, Danny had lied to him to his face - multiple times, at that. "Just thinking about it makes me furious. Knowing that he did exactly what I wanted to. Thinking that he might have kissed you... I just..." Trying to get across to her what was eating at him, Ben grabbed her face. He pressed his mouth over hers, wanting her to feel what he did.

"Oh really? Well, I have to disagree kind sir. I think I can handle anything you throw my way." She was loving it, whatever it was between them. He was fun to be around and really easy to get a long with. It almost saddened her that they were only now getting to know each other. If she could have, Emma would have turned back time and force herself to meet with him sooner than they had. But would she really want to do that? If she did, they wouldn't have here and now. Everything happening in that moment, wouldn't be taking place. They would just be regular old friends by that point in time, like her and Danny. Her mind wandered for a moment on that thought. Would she have dated Ben too if she knew him around the time she knew Danny? And if so, would she had broken it off with him for the same reason as Danny? Stop. Danny. That was all she was thinking about and she needed to stop. Her feelings for him were no more and she needed to stay in the present, with Ben. Not only that, but Ben was not Danny, so comparing them, was a highly stupid thing to do.
Snapping out of her thoughts due to his words, she laughed again, her head shaking in disbelief. He was hilarious. He had the jokes; she could give him that. "Well, gravity is making your eyes be quite naughty isn't it? But as for regrets, you're right. You shouldn't have them. I know I'm good looking." With that comment, she stuck her nose in the air like a preppy bitch would who was full of themselves. Emma was nothing like that type of person, and she knew that he could tell that, even if she pulled it off quite well. If he didn't know by now that she was probably one of the sweetest people he would ever meet, he was oblivious. Nodding at his next comment, she lowered her head back to its normal position and sent a smirk in his direction. "Alright. I'll have to take you up on that offer, love. After all, it sounds quite fun."
Emma sat up from the tree and drew her legs to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. Her eyes stayed on the boy next to her, studying him, trying to figure out what he was feeling and what was going through his mind. She could tell he was angry. The look on his face said it all. To be honest, she wasn't too pleased herself. Danny should have never put them in this position. He should have been honest in the first place. Emma loved Danny, in a platonic manner of course, but this was a big mistake. Especially when it came to Ben. They were supposed to be best friends, yet he couldn't even tell Ben the truth? That was completely wrong. She couldn't help but harbor her own feelings of anger though, as selfish as it might be, seeing as Ben had it the worst. Danny had lied about her, kept her from someone. Someone who could potentially be a really good friend to her, and she didn't like that. All she could do, was shake her head at what Ben told her. He didn't deserve to be lied to, or to be kept from the truth, just as much as she didn't deserve to be kept a secret.
Emma's back straightened quickly and she soon found it hard to breathe at his words. He... liked her? He wanted her? He never really knew her, but still, it was flattering. However, it only made her anger rise as well. Danny not only lied, but he back-stabbed his best friend. Despite the fact she didn't want to feel like a prize to be won by the two, it still angered her that Danny would go after her when he knew full out that Ben liked her. She was not Ben's, but neither was she Danny's. Even when they dated she was no one's property and she sure as hell wasn't now. Did Danny believe that she was? As he continued to speak, she forced herself to breathe again as she stayed quiet. She really didn't know what to say to him. She couldn't tell him that she liked him as well, because she wasn't completely sure of her feelings. At the moment, everything just seemed to be crashing down and she didn't know how to handle it.
Not expecting what was to come, her eyes widened in shock as he grabbed her face and pulled her in for a kiss. Her eyes snapped closed and her lids squeezed together tightly, confusion written all over her face as she stayed there for a moment, not exactly sure what to do. Her hands reached for his shoulders and she gripped a bit before pushing him back, at the same time pulling her head from him. Her eyes opened once again, staring straight at him blankly. What should she say? What should she do? She needed to get out of the tense atmosphere because it was weighing down on her. She wanted to return to when they were happy and joking around. A smile quickly placing itself on her lips, she dropped her hands from his shoulders. "Let's swim!" She said excitedly, using her hands to push herself off the ground. Once standing, she kicked her shoes off and then pulled off her sweater, revealing just the strapless dress beneath. She then turned from him and reached behind her to unzip the back of her dress, before letting it fall to the ground, leaving her in only her undergarments. Turning to face him again, she smiled playfully and then backed away. "Well, come on." After that, she didn't wait for his response before she ran to the water, only stopping, and turning back to him once she was covered up to her chest. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] Ben was quite shocked with himself, and a little ashamed. He hadn't meant to take a liberty with her, especially not after just meeting her. Still, it had occurred and now he couldn't take it back. It stung a little to have her push him back, and lean away from him. He wondered, with a bit of venom, if she'd done as much to Danny. It was so very wrong of him to think like that, and so he pushed the ugly thoughts away. And when Emmalee smiled at him so brightly, he felt a grin of his own tug at his lips. She invited him to swim, and he waggled his eyebrows in question. "Naked?"
He nearly thought she was going to do as he asked, when she began to strip off her clothes. A bit to his dismay, she stopped at her underthings and waded out into the lake. Ben kicked off his shoes and walked to the edge. Cautiously, he stuck his foot into the water and found the temperature to be nearly frigid. Shaking his head he laughed, amazed that her teeth weren't chattering. "I'm not getting in there! Are you completely insane? That water is freezing!" He kicked a spray of water out at her, and jerked his foot back immediately. "You're going to be so sorry you set a foot in that lake, Em! I bet you're gonna get sick too!"
He watched her swimming and felt fire in his veins. Gods all above, he thought to himself, with a mild stain of red creeping up his neck. He could certainly see why Danny had gotten caught up in her. Emmalee was a dream girl. She was intelligent and confident in herself, but she wasn't a bitch. He liked how down to earth she actually was. Standing on the shore, he motioned for her to come back. "You really should get out before you catch your death, Emma." He really was concerned for her, and didn't want her to fall ill. tag || Emmalee! || words || 3 3 7 || outfit || click ! notes || *swoons* kiss me ben! me! |

The last thing she wanted to do was that, but he had come on to her so quickly, she had no clue what to do. She was flattered that he liked her and more so that he had for all those years, but how was she supposed to react when she wasn't sure of her own feelings and she had just met him. However, he seemed to be okay when he perked back up to his normal self. Emma chuckled at his question about swimming. Typical man. Of course he wanted to go skinny dipping. Any guy would want to do so, if they got the chance. It was just in their mindset. They always think with another head. However, Emma took no offense to it. In fact, she thought it was quite funny. She just hoped he wasn't too disappointed when she didn't drop her underwear along with her dress. The fact that he was seeing that much was enough for a first meeting, she believed.
Watching him kick off his shoes, she realized that they probably wouldn't be in the water too long. It was really cold and she couldn't believe she was still in there as long as she was, even though it had only been a few minutes. Her eyes stayed on him as he made his way to the water and stuck his foot in. She laughed when he wouldn't go in and shook her head at him. "What a wimp you are Benjamin Wakefield." When he splashed the water at her, she giggled and raised her hands to shield herself. "No fair! Come on. It really isn't that bad. Come in!" Placing her hands back in the water, she used one of them to splash a bit of water his way. "I'm going to be sorry? You're going to be sorry if you don't get your butt in here with me!" She really hoped he wouldn't leave her hanging. He did owe her that much since he practically mouth raped her only moments ago.
When he motioned for her to get out, she shook her head at him before going fully under. When she resurfaced after only a few seconds, she pushed her hair out of her face and then started toward the bank where he stood. "Okay. But I warned you." She said deviantly with a smirk upon her lips. Once she was able to stand fully and move without the resistance from the water, her eyes danced with excitement as she ran at him, jumping at him once she was close enough. Her arms wrapped around his neck and her legs around his waist, her body pressing to his. Feeling his balance waver, she let out a small squeak as he fell backwards. Holding onto him still, she fell with him, landing on top of him when they hit the ground. For a moment she laid there, her head limp over his shoulder as the laughter started. Slowly pushing up, she straddled him, one hand on either side of his head, while her thighs pressed to his waist. "Are you alright?" She asked, her laughing starting to stop, until it came to a complete halt. Her eyes were now staring into his as she was now at a loss for words. His eyes were very pretty. oh, you capture my attention, carefully listening, don’t wanna miss a thing, keeping my eyes on you, oh, you capture my attention, i’m anticipating, i’m watching, i’m waiting, for you to make your move [style=width: 300px; text-align: right; line-height: 15px; font-size: 22px; text-transform: lowercase;]you got me on my toes [/style] "You think I'm a wimp? Pah! I think you're completely insane, Emmalee Davis!" It was so perfect, spending time alone with her, yet he could not help but feel like something was missing. Danny was no where to be seen and so it bothered him. Why had he not come after to see if Ben was alright? It made the auburn haired wizard nervous and upset, so he moved the thought to the back of his mind, to deal with later. Standing on the shoreline, he laughed at her trying to block the frigid splash.
"You could not pay me enough galleons to get in that water, ma'am. It is just not going to happen!" His voice carried out over the surface of the lake without much effort. Ben turned to head back to the tree, until he heard the sound of disturbed water. Turning to see Emma charging towards him, he held his arms out to stop her. It was a good thing too, because she sailed right into his waiting embrace. His mind didn't register the fact that the ground was quickly rushing up to meet him until he hit it with an audible 'umph'.
Peeking out from screwed shut eyes, he realized he was alive and in one piece. Perhaps a bit bruised, but otherwise just fine. Emma sat atop him, her face so very close to his and he subconsciously grinned. They lay there for a moment, as Ben tried to catch his breath; a feat that was near impossible with a girl like Emmalee. He had the sneaking suspicion there wasn't another girl in the world like Emmalee. Letting out what little breath he had in a reverberating laugh. She sat on him, a leg on each side of his hips and her hands on each side of his head.
The ends of her blonde locks were tickling his face, dripping small tears of water onto his dry skin. Reaching up, he pushed a stray bit of it behind her ear. "I'm fine...", he managed in a breathy voice. Surely she realized just how compromising a position they were in? If she hadn't yet, he secretly hoped she wouldn't at all. Ben was so content to lay there, and hold her close. After all, she had placed herself in his arms, so it was not him making the move.
His other hand moved up her thigh, and settled on her hip to hold her steady. It would a blatant lie to say he didn't want her, because he did. Watching her face for any signs of discomfort, he winked at her. "A queen on her throne? I don't mind you staying there as long as you please." There was no need to get up, he reasoned, and contented himself to remain beneath her. It wasn't too hard to do, considering he was exactly where he wanted to be - not that he'd be mentioning that tidbit to her.
"To be honest, I don't know why, but I feel like I could tell you anything." Ben had the distinct urge to tell her about his past. Maybe it was because he felt like he was about to lose Danny. As though he needed to find a new confidant to whisper all the bad things that had ever happened to him. Would she look at him any differently? Would she pity him in the manner that he hated so much? His father was abusive, his mother a dead beat drunk these days... The only family member he had left was Rebekah, and he loved her so much more than life itself.
Without Danny and Bekah, Ben doubted he would have survived his childhood and first years at Hogwarts. He was never going to forgive himself for leaving Rebekah alone in that household. The day he set foot in Hogwarts, he'd sworn to himself that he was going to get his mother and sister away from that man. Now his heart was nudging him to tell her, to admit that everything wasn't alright. But he wasn't entirely sold on the idea, being as secretive as he was. There was too much at risk at the moment to poor out his heart and soul to her. After all, he didn't actually know her, he was only just beginning to do so. With time, he could see himself telling her, but until then it was probably safer to leave her in the dark about it.
Sitting up slowly, so as not to push her away, Ben looked in her face. There was so much there to see. Emma was honest, that much he could read already. He'd seen her kindness as well, with her coming to check on him after their literal run in. So many positive traits made him suspicious. Who could fit so well? Complement who he was so perfectly? It was impossible. Ben didn't believe in soul mates anymore. He'd lost that hope and dream when his father raised his fist to his mother, and in turn to himself and his sister. People were capable of love yes, but they were capable of such malice as well. He feared, deep down, that he might turn out the way his father had. Nothing would crush him more than such a fate as that.
"You are the most beautiful person I have ever met." Well, might as well be honest. He hadn't intended to say it aloud, but there was no shame in admitting that truth. Emma already knew he liked her, so no harm would come of complementing her. Leaning back on one palm, he motioned with the other hand to his guitar case, before returning it to her waist. "I come out here and play, when some thing's eating at me. There's relief and release in music, you know." Scrutinizing her face once more, he contemplated the pros and cons of allowing her to hear him play. Deciding it wouldn't be such a bad thing, he offered his skill to her. "I'll play you something if you like, dearest mermaid." Tweaking her nose with a hearty laugh he added in, "Maybe your funeral song when you get sick and die?" tag || Emmalee! || words || 1 0 3 2 || outfit || click ! notes || ho durn. got a bit sad there |

Well I'm sure you definitely think it now after that act." She said, a smile returning to her features as she stopped herself from staring at him. It was rude, wasn't it? "And also, you should always take the galleons if they're offered, don't you think? You wouldn't end up like this. I mean... next time, I might not be so lenient." After adding a wink to the end of her sentence, Emma let out a small chuckle. She didn't know why, but it felt so easy to be herself with him. Emma had always been outgoing and flirty, but she was sure she had never said some of those things to anyone else, or had even come close. He made her feel like she didn't have to be ashamed. After all, she stripped in front of him. She had never done that either. What was it about him that made her so comfortable? It definitely wasn't the connection they had with Danny, seeing as Danny was only causing trouble at the moment. It could just be as simple as, his personality. She absolutely loved it. He was fun to be around and the way he looked at her- it was something that reminded her everything was alright. She loved the way he looked at her, even if she knew it was because he liked her.
Her eyes watched his hand raise from the ground and then met his eyes again as he pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear. She couldn't help but smile at him and do nothing else, because of that small act on his part. It was such a simple motion, yet so gentle. If he was trying at all to capture her heart, he was sure doing something right, because she knew her heart could end up in his hands if he kept it up. Her adrenaline piqued a bit at the feeling of his hand moving up her thigh until it landed on her waist. What was she thinking? She brought up the idea of swimming to steer him from the feelings he admitted to by kissing her. She wanted to drop it, and move on. Yet, her jumping on top of him, definitely wasn't helping matters. He was taking advantage of the moment, and honestly, he was starting to make her want to as well. He was dragging her into the moment instead of letting her run from it. However, she wasn't sure she hated the idea. Damn him.
Laughing, Emmalee shook her head at the boy beneath her. "Of course you wouldn't mind. Why do you have to be such a boy Benjamin Wakefield?" She asked in a teasing manner. Removing her hands from the ground, she now crossed her arms over one another on his chest to prop herself up. Of course she was referring to the fact she knew exactly what he was thinking. He was once again being a teenage boy. Not that it was an issue. She found it amusing. Plus, she was just as bad as him in some instances. She did happen to bring it upon herself, seeing as she was the one half naked and he was fully clothed. Anyone could claim her to be at fault. She screamed guilty. Her eyes ventured to her dress for a moment. She probably should get dressed in case someone were to find them. It wouldn't look very innocent if anyone saw them the way they were now. Especially with her lack of attire. It was even starting to hit her that she was a bit chilly. But, she didn't want to move. She was comfortable where she was.
Hearing his comment, she turned her attention back to him. He felt like he could tell her anything? That certainly made her feel good. She loved when people felt that way about her. One of her favorite things to do was listen to people. Sometimes, listening was enough to help someone, because in some cases, they might not have anyone to listen to them. Giving him a warm smile, she ran her fingers gently through his auburn locks. "Well, you can certainly tell me anything if you want to. Your secret is always safe with me. However, I am not expecting you to tell me anything. When you're ready to talk, I will be ready to listen." It made her wonder what exactly he was talking about though. Did he have some sort of past that not many people knew about? Maybe she was thinking too hard on it and he was only stating that he might be able to trust her, if he needed to get something of his chest.
Following his movement, Emma sat up as he did, but stayed right where she was. Though, thinking about it, she wondered if she was making him uncomfortable. Not in an emotional sense. She knew he was pleased with the current arrangement. But, that didn't mean he was physically comfortable. Maybe she should ask him if he was alright? Opening her mouth slightly to speak, she didn't say anything because she was caught off guard by his own words. A light pink color soon reached her cheeks as she looked down. "Thank you. You're very sweet." She knew she was pretty. Never in her life had she thought she was ugly. Therefore, usually when people tell her she's pretty, or beautiful, it didn't really phase her. Especially since she's heard it so many times. But it was confusing her, because it was clearing getting to her. It made her overjoyed to hear him say it. She didn't know why. He was just another boy, wasn't he? Looking up again, her heart started to pick up a bit. Why was he making her feel this way?
Emma continued to listen to his words, but for some reason, she could only think of one thing. She tried to shake it off, but it stayed there, in the back of her mind, even as she thought about the words to use as an answer to him. "I completely understand. Music is one of my escapes as well." A light laugh escaped her lips as he tweaked her nose and took in his words of a funeral for her. She did want to hear him play. But there it was again. That thing she couldn't get off her mind. Damn him. Leaning forward slightly, her eyes stayed locked on his. Her heart started to speed up with each inch she moved forward. A small smirk played on her lips as her face was only centimeters from his now. "I would love to hear you play sometime, but if I'm going to die soon, I must complete what I only just added to my bucket list." Placing her hands lightly on both of his cheeks, she leaned all the way this time, locking her lips with his.
